Graduation is a ceremony wherein students, who have completed the certified course, are awarded with a degree by their respective universities or by their respective schools (for secondary or primary education levels). Different learning institutes follow different graduation ceremony procedures.
In United States of America, graduation is also called as the commencement exercise. The top ranking students and the professors read out their respective speeches, during the ceremony. Degree certificates are handed out to the students turn by turn as their names are announced.
The degree is given by the chairman of the university or by a significant official. You might get surprised by the fact that in most of the cases, the diploma that is given during the actual ceremony is not the real one.
Generally, the original copy is handed out only after the ceremonial procedure gets over. For security reasons, it is given in a hard envelope. After finishing the ceremonial procedure, Americans toss their hat. |
